Description
Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear is one of the most severe injuries one can get as an athlete and an active person. ACL tears occur in sports that involve sudden changes of direction when jumping or landing or where speed is needed to stop suddenly, i.e., stopping after a high-speed run. Injuries are common in sports such as football, basketball, handball, and downhill skiing.

The SportRehab™ ACL Phase 4 Returning to Train Overview;

During Phase 4, the continuation of a gym-based strength and neuromuscular program is still vital. The aim is to progressively return to training your sport, including more advanced plyometric drills - The key is still to perform this with good biomechanics and proper technique. Regular sessions within the team session are modified progressively during this phase.

Phase 4 passing criteria after approx. 39+ weeks of rehab:

  • No swelling signs and a pain-free knee
  • Correct technique in both acceleration and especially for deceleration, that is, when landing and running.
  • Proper biomechanics when landing and running
  • Attain jumping performance (length, endurance)
  • Able to be part of modified gameplay in Sports (Football, handball, basketball, etc.)
  • Continue with the regeneration of full strength and balance.
  • Passing your clinician's protocol of tests: running (fitness tests like 30:15 intermittent test or Yo-Yo test ), Jumping (single-leg, triple jump, side jumping, etc.), Strength test (Single-leg and other strength tests for the lower limbs). All tests are recommended to be performed without and with fatigue, i.e., after performing a conditioning test, you'll perform jump and agility tests.
  • The Melbourne Return to Sport Questionary or other subjective questionary is recommended to perform.
